I went into work with Dad again today. Jerry was having trouble with his computer and Dad managed to convince Bill to have me in for the whole day.

I fixed Jerry's computer without a hitch. That was the easy part. So, since it was still early and I didn't have my own vehicle, I went looking around for things to do to earn the money for the day. I did more database work on the field definitions, form layouts, and drop down menus. Then I made sure that everyone was working with the same stuff. It helps to have all the sales guys on the same page.

Unfortunately, because of the set up with the computer, it was a big downtime day.

But, I was done with most of what I had to do by 12:30... Crazy stuff. So, I took lunch, came back, and tried to figure out more work to do. The network got overloaded for a bit today, too. Dean did something that just killed the bandwidth for the entire place, and everyone's computers started crashing everytime they tried to access the server. It was kind of funny.

Then, there was the typical pissy attitude of the place. Total bad vibes... Very annoying. Unfortunately, it's not much different from the norm for that place.

back again later
They need me to come back again next week on the 20^th, too. Apparently, there's a rep coming in and they want the company to look like it's in better shape than it is. Plus, Bill wants me to start looking over stuff for Paradox and Access. More database work... just different databases.

Oh, bother...

taking the aunt to the doctor
I took Auntie Lyn to the doctor on Monday to get her foot checked. She broke it a while back and has been having trouble with it healing. She had surgery on it to get pins placed in the bone to keep it together.

Well, the visit went pretty well, and the doctor seems to think it's going to heal this time. He wants her to come back next Tuesday. I can't take her though.

However, if I have to hear one more time about how I should dress myself up and try to find a date, I'm going to scream.

Mom and Auntie Lyn both said, 'dress nice, put on a little make up, do you hair nice...' I was like, leave off.

I need to pick a project... though I'll probably get involved in all of them.

There's virtual main street, which will be an online representation of Patchogue.

There's the Little Flower and battered women's shelter training seminars. Similar to the probation department, but with a different group of 'students'.

There's also going to be a volunteer tax preparation service. That I really want to do... as crazy as that sounds.

I just have to let Paul D know what I want to do.

school job
Barbara's been keeping me busy. I rarely get any downtime there. We've been making phone calls to the students about attendance... dealing with problems students might be having... all that kind of stuff. If I have to hear another sob story, I'm going to freak.

When we call, we have to make it sound innocent so they don't know exactly why we're calling. It's hard. I'm not a very good liar anymore.

I also do a lot of computer work for Barbara. She trusts me a lot more than she's trusted work studies in the past. She said I'm the first person she's let work directly on her computer and in her office without her there. I definitely need to get a letter of recommendation from her for future jobs.

tutoring blues
However, because I'm a work study, I apparently am not allowed to tutor all of a sudden. Now, I have to find tutors for my students to replace me. I called Barbara today while I was at work, but she didn't call back. I was hoping to get numbers for alternate tutors.

I'm not extremely upset about it... despite having to find tutors for these guys. But it pays more than the tutoring, so I'm hoping that this will make my schedule easier to work out.

long island ducks game
May 23^rd is a game for the Long Island Ducks. Tickets were $10 and I forgot to get the money from John S. He's going, as well as Mom, Dad, Cathy, and Nick. It should be fun.

homework stinks
Well, I was worried about my report being late, but there's enough graded items in class that I'm already near the borderline of a B and an A. I have plenty of chances to make up for it. I got 50 points off for it being late, and ended up with a 49, but I got a 99 on my midterm and 100's on the other three assignments, so I have an 89/90 average.

Prof Tyrie really seems to like me. She's been impressed with my work so far and praised my paper on Who Moved My Cheese? even though it was late. I might want to ask her for a letter of recommendation later, too. I keep forgetting to at the end of the semesters, but I should.

laptop fun
I found a reason to bring my laptop to school even though I don't have any programming classes. I volunteered my computer to handle compiling the group project for class. I don't mind bringing it with me if it means we get more done when we're together as a group.

I'd be using my laptop anyway, since my big computer is a bit buggy right now. I'm still working on fixing that.

Anyway, Dad's happy that I can use it for what he got it for instead of just an internet toy for the living room. I feel really cool about the idea. In fact, I had thought about taking it with me to work today, but changed my mind in favor of not lugging it with me.

It's kinda heavy...

phone-ness
So, I got out of the truck this morning when Dad stopped at the gas station this morning and John S called my cell phone. He felt bad, thinking he'd woken me up, but I reassured him that I had been up for a while already. He called me to ask what I was doing... He got a virus on his computer and panicked. We fixed it really easily tonight and we're going to hang out again on Friday night.

Brian called today, too... about mid afternoon. I'm hanging with him on Saturday and we're going bowling.

pain sucks
My arm didn't stop hurting for like ages. It was last Thursday that it started. I finally caved and took some Advil tonight after dinner. It kicked in surprisingly quick. I was pleasantly surprised. It's been a little achy off and on since, but nothing major like it had been... I'm very happy about that.
