Wil Wheaton posted on his blog about a trip to JPL to interview the workers on the Mars Rover projects. He went on behalf of The Screen Savers, the guys on TechTV.

So I was *incredibly* sad this afternoon when I read that Spirit hasn't talked to JPL for 24 hours, and they're afraid that they may have lost contact with the rover.

Wil's referring here to the big news that Spirit suddenly flipped out. However, there's hope, as a recent blurb on Tech Live stated how it was starting to recover (which Wil acknowledges at the bottom of his post thanks to a kind reader who pointed it out to him).

I haven't had a real post in ages. School's been really busy since it started. I got accepted into the work study program finally. On top of the tutoring and classes, I haven't had much time to myself. But, since we're having some snow, I didn't have class.

school stuff
So, my schedule got messed up again this semester because of a class cancellation. I was originally supposed to be taking Introduction to C#, but then they put me in some Business class that I not only don't need but can't fit into my free electives. Figures.

After a short session with one of the advisors, I got switched out of the business class. However, that leaves me with only one class this half and three tough ones next half. I have Introduction to Management this half, and then I have Statistics, Mathematical Analysis, and American History I in the second half.

Looks like I'm gonna have to cut back on working hours next half.

speaking of work
I've been making a lot of calls. We were keeping track of who was missing class and then calling them. Not all of them, just people who had the possibility of being problem students. We're basically in charge of retention of students. That's why we call. We're trying to get around dropping them as students.

But, it's been crazy these first few weeks. Barbara says it'll calm down soon. I certainly hope so. I don't think I've left once on time. I'm also only allowed to work 20 hours at most, which stinks because I usually end up working longer than that. We just can't report it. There's ways around it and stuff, like adding on to a week that I don't work the full 20 hours, but there hasn't been a week like that, yet. It's been hard.

and in other work
I also have three students that I'm working with. I haven't heard from Shirley, lately, otherwise I'd have four. And I might end up with another two for Business Math. I was looking over Prof Newman's book today and I might be able to handle teaching it. I'd feel a bit better if I had taken the class, though.

Of course, I went and got sick, so all this work and class and stuff really sucks. It's hard because I'm sick. Coughing, sneezing, congestion... I had a fever and icky body aches last night... Of course, staying up late isn't going to help, but I figure I won't be able to go in until late anyway tomorrow because of the snow.

At least, I hope so...
