whew!
What a week! We got dumped on with snow, Brian came home on terminal leave before his discharge, I did Financial Aid stuff for my re-enrollment as a junior next semester, I went to a school reception, there was a SIFE presentation, and I still had all my classes!

It seems Long Island got hit with the early snow dumping again this year. I had to dig my car out, then attempt to move it so the plow guys could clear my spot. Thankfully, I live in a condo instead of a private house... so no digging entire driveways for me!! ^_^;; That was one good thing.

However, it's been terribly cold. At least, for me, it was. My parents love cold, so they're fine. I'm am so not a cold weather person.

What I hate is that I have to do some fluid checking in my car... but I just don't want to stand out in the cold to do it. I'm also up for an oil change, but I don't want to pay the extra money to have them top off all the fluids in my car. ^^;;

So, Brian's home. He's done. Discharged. Of course, they still technically have a hold on him for another four years, but he's technically home for good. He did his time and he's happy. Well... as happy as he can be considering his wife decided to leave him after only 7 months of her completely lying to him.

According to Brian, she a money grubbing whore... hiding portions of her paycheck in a private account, attempting to take money from him out of their joint account when she left, cleaning out the apartment almost entirely when she left, trying to sue him for more money, trying to trick him into thinking he owes her half of everything because he's military (which he looked and he doesn't...). Basically, she's trying to grab him for every cent she can.

So, Brian went to see about an annulment. Unfortunately, it doesn't work for him because they don't meet the qualifications. When he told me about checking that out, I had sincerely hoped he could get one because I just had a funny feeling that a divorce with her was going to be way messy. Well, it's going to be, alright. Whoo boy...

I don't envy him one bit.

re-enrollment fun
So, I got in with Financial Aid. Turns out I'm elligible for more aid because I'm a four year instead of a two year. Nice, huh? I've got a surplus in aid and loan elligibility of somewhere around $2500. So, I applied for a book voucher to be put on file at the bookstore so I won't have to pay anything out of pocket for my books. Woohoo! Not an out of pocket expense anywhere except for gas in my car!

Today, I attended a reception with the school for high school guidance counselors and teachers. We were basically marketing Briarcliffe to them for the time we were there. It wasn't bad. They asked me to speak as a student and SIFE member... which wasn't bad.

Plus, there was free food and drinks. That's always a good thing!!

Another SIFE event I did tonight was yet another presentation in our series with the probationers over at the Suffolk County Probation Dept. Walter and I did a computer module where we gave the group some basic computer knowledge and some ideas as to how to get started on using them.

The group was really responsive and seemed excited about it. I've been enjoying working with them. One of the girls there tonight said she had signed up to go to Briarcliffe in January as well, and that she was really excited about going back to school. I wished her luck, letting her know how much fun it's been for me, too. She seemed really happy about the idea.

class blahs
Accounting has been tedious. A lot of work to do that's long and hard and requires a lot of thinking. I'm not looking forward to next week's finals at all. For Java, too... which has been really interesting lately. A lot of crazy laughing, sarcastic comments, and more geek central stuff... I swear, I've had my fill of them. I'm ready to just shoot them all.

I think the teacher is, too.

But... we're trying. The final next week should be interesting, to say the least. Hopefully, we'll actually have a group of people.. instead of maybe... four of us... {{sigh}}
