Bill isn't sure if he's going to have any work for me after next week. {{sigh}} I hate my job life. I hate my job life. I really really hate my job life.

tediousness
Of course, today's work was very tedious. I had to go through everything I merged in and make sure a particular field had either "Lead" or "Sold" in it. Why couldn't Billy tell me that while I was still working with the files in Excel? I could have made a stupid field to go with it and done it in two seconds. Now I'm going through like an idiot entering the stupid things manually. {{diesdiesdies}}

bored doodles
I made some cool doodles in my notebook though. Reflections came out really cool, I think. I'm just annoyed by the notebook lines. I managed to remove most of them without ruining the pic, but I think I'm going to color it to get rid of the rest instead of trying to match pencil color. LOL.

I did some others and scanned them in, too. I'll post them at another time.

no post last night?
Nope. Apparently, big happenings in my Delta Force Squad. People aren't happy with each other, and I feel like the squad's falling apart for real this time. There's things going on behind the scenes that I don't want to say completely here because I have link in my AE forum sig and I don't know how many AE members check out my site on a regular basis. I know a couple joined my forum, so I know that some do at times.

All I'm going to say is this...

I'm afraid for AE's future. A few things were said that probably shouldn't have been said, and now people are reading things that are typed in perhaps a bit differently than they were intended to be read.

That's one of the major downfalls of the internet and a text based forum. A word is a very small part of the communication process, and people just don't seem to understand that anymore. The other parts we take for granted, body language, facial expressions, tone of voice, are all missing in this type of situation.

Ever notice how you can get an idea of what's going on just by watching a person when they talk? Or how you can tell how someone feels from the tone of their voice? the look on their face? These are all things that are missing here. Communication is more than just words and language.

I think some of the members of AE are losing sight of that, and are starting to read more than what's really there on the screen.

I don't want to see the squad break up. It's been fun playing with the same group of people. I'm definitely going to miss it if it breaks up.

On the otherhand, life outside the internet does go on, despite it's interferance with having fun... LOL...

I fixed a couple of the databases yesterday, so that worked out good. I also got some data entry done for Billy. We're going to have to tell the reps to e-mail their leads in an Excel file. There's no way in hell anyone should have to type in five pages of leads. It's just a big pain.

What really bugged me about it was that it looked like an Excel spreadsheet that someone printed (in tiny letters, mind you) and then faxed over. What didn't he just send the stupid file??? {{sigh}}

today
Lori was out today, so Bill called in his daughter Heather to take care of the phones and do some order entry. He hovers over her just like he hovers over me. Man, it's annoying... I also finished off the spreadsheet and typed in another set of leads that looked like they'd been printed off a website. If I had gotten it even as a stupid HTML file, I still could have converted it around a bit and merged it through Excel into Act... but, again, it had been faxed, so I had to sit there and type the stupid thing in. However, I did finish that one completely today, so I don't have to worry about finishing it tomorrow.

I just don't know what I'm going to do now tomorrow. O.O;;

bills, bills...
I also paid off a bunch of bills last night to mail out today. So, I already spent the money I got earlier this week from work. Go figure. {{sigh}} I hate bills. They suck.

i think i can, i think i can
This was another major downtime day as I waited for the computer to complete the tasks I asked it to. I finished up everything I needed to do in Excel, so I started migrating stuff over to Act!2000 today. It took forever... The entire day to migrate the Excel file into a new database (that I had to synchronize to the main one before hand), then to merge to two together.

I merged a copy of the original one with the new one I made as a test run, to make sure it didn't mess anything up in the original one. However, we decided that, rather than do it again and screw something else up, we're going to use the 'copy' one as the final database now. We can always rename it, so that's no big deal.

missing invoices
We found a bunch of customer records (about 4000 of them) that didn't match up to any of the invoices I exported. However, when we entered them into Plus, some of them had lists of invoices attached to them for various things. So, I sent over the customer records I had. The salesmen can sort out what to do with them.

plan of attack
So, now I have to sit down with Billy, Bob, and the rest of the sales staff to figure out a plan of attack on how to start doing this smoothly. The whole purpose of the job was to create a contact database with a history about each customer. Then, they can start calling these customers, ask them about the units, and find out if they want to recalibrate, repair, upgrade, or get accessories. Bill is hoping to generate some more revenue from this, and he's hoping to start creating a loyal customer base that is more willing to work with the company on things.

I just hope it works.

Okay, I added all those quizzes I took early this morning instead of putting it off until I had twenty more to add. ^^;;; It was easier this time. Gee... I wonder why...

new guy on the job
Well, they hired a new salesmen through the Dept of Labor. He started training today, watching all sorts of demo videos about the different units and stuff. He seems like a pretty nice guy.

My question is, can he sell ice to an eskimo? That's really the type of salesmen they need at this place. They also need guys that can help change their bad service image. This place has a terrible rep for customer service and tech support on their units... which is a very bad thing.

I'm also still hoping they can get these new units going. They might help sales, especially from existing customers who are interested in upgrading.

disaster averted
So, Akurei had a mega website scare last night. However, between the two of us, we finally managed to pull it all together and get the site running again. He lost a lot of stuff, but the site is there and useable. Poor guy... I thought he was going to freak out with all the stuff I was feeding him on SQL. And it's really hard to do that over IM. You'd think it would be easier because you can type the stuff out, but I really felt like I was having a hard time explaining things to him.

I've never done this before, but the ads are just plain annoying. To anyone who doesn't use a firewall, or opens their firewall to host internet stuff, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Someone has apparently found a way to use NT's LAN broadcast messaging feature on the internet. Now, they're sending messages out to everyone to buy their software to stop their own ads from popping up. Of course, they're the only ones doing it. I haven't gotten a single messenger pop up from anyone else.

So, no, it's not from Yahoo!, MSN, AIM, or any of the others out there. It's someone utilizing a feature in Windows to send ads and get past your pop up blocker software.

I'm now suggesting no one visit www.endads.com. Let's get them to stop the madness and show them they're stupid marketing ploy isn't going to get us to spend $39 to stop the only ads we're getting (which are from them).

Addendum (Monday, August 18th, 2:05 AM): Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Component Services... Double click "Services (Local)" in left panel and locate the "Messenger" service in the right panel. Change properties to either 'disable' or 'manual'. This should clear up the Messenger pop up issue. For more information, see remove.txt. Yes, it's on the site I blocked earlier, however, at least they're honest enough to give you a way to do it without spending the $39 on their software. However, my theory on them using that service to broadcast their message was apparently correct.

rude awakening
So I was snapped awake rather violently at 8 am this morning when a crack of lightening and thunder went insane over my house. O.O;; It was like right there or something because the sound, the flash, everything was instantaneous. Not to mention terribly loud. Dad came in to see if I was okay, and then headed into the bathroom. I was like, "you still have to go after that?" Heh... It was loud.

party update
So, now I have to go make a bunch of calls to make sure everyone knows the right date for the party. It's just my luck that something like that would happen. LOL... I also have to find my party packet. I don't know what happened to it. I was hoping to get some pre-party orders this week from work, but I can't do that if I don't have order sheets. I'll have to ask Mom if she can get some from Donna... either that or I can take the orders in my notebook.

rescheduling
I got an e-mail from Rob the other day. Apparently it was a good call for me not to go to the diner after the blackout on Thursday. He was asking for everyone's schedules again so he could set up another meeting for us. Frankly, I wasn't thrilled with the idea of having to drive down Route 110 without traffic lights to get to the diner, especially if the diner might not be open due to lack of power. We weren't sure at that point how long the power was going to be out, either, so it really wasn't worth it. It's not like we could have shown anyone anything anyway.
