high stakes Empire Maker wins the Bellmont Stakes. I was hoping Funny Cide would take the Triple Crown. It's difficult to grab all three. It was a really good race, though.
what layer of hell is that again? I got cursed to the ninth layer of Hell or something by my cats yesterday. At least, that what all the yowling and meowing when I finally got them into the carriers sounded like. I ended up with a few battle wounds for my efforts, as well. ^^;;; Oh well. I got them there. They're healthy. They got their vaccinations. Dr Savino doesn't think Prudy needs all the heavy vaccinations anymore because of her age. She's almost 19 years old, and he feels she's probably built up her immunity by now from all the past vaccinations. We've always kept their shots current.
We finalized a theory as to Prudy's weird yowling lately. We think she misses the boys. She started doing it more after Daryl died, and, now that Marbles is gone, she's been doing it even more. She wouldn't stop, yesterday. She's been fairly quiet today, not as demanding, which is a relief. I left her up in my room, curled up and sleeping on her head. It was kind of cute.
rain, rain, go away Talk about blah. This rain is killing me. It just makes me and Mom so depressed. I'm just not in the mood today to do anything.
Auntie Lyn and Nana were supposed to come over earlier while Dad was working over at the sporting clays range, but they didn't. Then, Mom and I had been thinking about doing some cleaning in my closet. Well, Mom was. I wasn't thrilled with the idea. Space in my room is kind of limited because it isn't clean, so it's hard to have someone in there with me while I'm cleaning. I appreciate that she wants to help, but I find it's more of a hinderance to have someone else in there.
movie trip We're going to catch a matinee tomorrow... So far, it's me, my parents, and Cathy & Nick. Estelle's not sure because of the baby, so I'm going to call her tomorrow when we set up definite plans to find out if she can go. I left a message for John S on his phone, but I'm not sure if he's going to get it. It seems harder to get in touch with him now that he's going back out with Nicole.
Oh well. I'm not even going to say what I think of that.
wow! So, I found out from Estelle (who found out from our friend's mom) that Jamie got arrested. The fact that it happened surprised me more than the reason for it. Apparently, because he's been hanging out with Jim in Brooklyn lately, they got caught for possession. Jay spent the night in jail. The really strange part is that his mother (who's very religious) is suddenly proud because Jay has "seen the light and is saved".
I don't know. I'm glad he's back on track, but I hope he doesn't turn into one of those extreme religious types. I don't think I could handle seeing him that way.

movie review Well, I finally saw Moulin Rouge in it's entirety the other day.
Woot.
Anyway...
Ewan MacGreggor (Star Wars: Episode 1 & 2) and Nicole Kidman (Eyes Wide Shut, Practical Magic) play lovers Christian and Satine who meet in a case of mistaken identity. Christian travels from London to Paris to be a writer and to experience the Bohemian Revolution. He meets up with a crazy dwarf named Toulous (John Leguzamo) who manages to talk him into writing their new play, "Spectaculaire, Spectaculaire". He sets up Christian for a meeting with Satine, but Satine already has a meeting with the Duke. She's expecting the Duke, who is brought up to her room by the Moulin Rouge's current owner, Zidler. Christian walks in, recites some of his work, and gets caught in the room with Satine by the Duke. However, with a quick cover up by Satine, Toulous, and the other Bohemians, they're able to convince the Duke that this will be a fabulous play and get him to invest. Little do any of them know at this time that Satine is dying from consumption.
Soon, a whole story of lies, trickery, love, and greed unfolds, taking place over the span of a year. There's crazy music, foolhardy shenanigans, the works. It's a very silly style to tell such a tragic story in. However, I enjoyed it. ^^;; As weird as that sounds. All the songs were ripped off (especially the Elephant Love Medley), the camera work was weird, they sped the film up and slowed it down at strange times, half the stuff going on didn't make any sense, yet it somehow worked. It was just a crazy film that fell together in itself. I really can't explain it any other way.
Some of the extras on the DVD were pretty funny, too. I enjoyed the extended dance sequences, as well as some of the reeditting that was done. Some pretty good stuff in there.

hm... security Well, walking into Allstate and filling out an application wasn't quite like Auntie Lyn said it would be. Of course, things have changed an awful lot in the last 30 or so years, not to mention the state of mind for large buildings. So, I got roadblocked at the front desk by the security guard who asked me to leave a résumé and he'd forward it "up to human resources" for me.
Hm... Think it'll make it? I'm not so sure.
on the otherhand Things went well at Astoria Federal. She said I didn't have to come back for today's since I had gone to the one a couple weeks ago in Syosett, but I got a majorly better response today than from the first girl I spoke to. {{crosses fingers}} She didn't like the fact that I've bounced some checks, but that won't happen if I have an income. ^^;;; {{sigh}}
20 minutes, my butt So, I head over to the DMV and get on the first line. I tell him why I'm there and he hands me a ticket. D808. So, I sit. Apparently, depending on why you're at the DMV, they assign you a letter, and then the numbers kind of go in order from there. As to how the numbers then come up on the screen, I have no idea how that works.
Anyway, my ticket said, "anticipated wait time is 20 minutes". Okay, not bad. So, I take a seat. And I wait. And I wait. And I wait. I watch D802, D803... all interspersed with the other letter groups, of which E and F seem to be moving the fastest. Now, I'm sitting there trying to figure out the way their system works. Can I go back on the now short information line, rephrase my question to another person and get a faster moving letter group? Probably not. So, I wait... and wait... and wait... D804, D805, D806. D806? Hello... D806? No response, so the girl hits the button again. D807. Woohoo! One left!
Meanwhile, I'm amusing myself by watching some of the small children that are around me. One little girl behind me was very playful. I look up at where D807 is now standing. Uh-oh... Will they need my registration? I figure, since it's been about an hour and a half to go 8 numbers in my letter group, I've got time to run out to the car and grab my registration. Besides, D806 just showed up, realizing he'd missed his call, and now he wants to talk to the girl after D807 is finished. So, I go out, get my registration, and come back.
No problem. Still plenty of time. Then, as I'm watching the little girl hand her mother's cell phone to the lady sitting next to her, D808 pops up on the screen, a small ding that accompanies each new number call sounding through the room. I nearly shout "Bingo!" I grab my stuff, get everything all ironed out (which took longer than it sounds...) and get out of there.
blah Now to go finish my laundry...

blah I got in touch with the woman from Oaktree. They filled the position. Blah.
Tomorrow, I'm hitting the Astoria Federal branch in Medford for their open house. While I'm in the area, I'm stopping by the Medford DMV to settle my insurance/registration issues. My registration was revoked because of my insurance being cancelled, so now I have to bring them the real insurance card that I finally got in the mail today to get everything settled. {{sigh}}
in the meantime I'm taking the monsters to the vet on Friday. Should be fun. Howling cats in a car. Yeah.
other things I'm also thinking of popping over at Allstate tomorrow. Their main office is a lot closer than GEICO.

job not-so-good-ness So, I went back to GEICO today. Apparently, all their shifts end no earlier than 6 pm. That's no good come September when my classes start back up again. I panicked told the guy about it. I'm pondering going back and possibly interviewing with someone else in the hopes he didn't write that down. Then, just take the job as a summer thing.
{{sigh}}
We'll see.
seminar I called StoresOnline about rescheduling my seminar. The closest one that I can actually attend is in Flushing at the LaGuardia Sheraton. Talk about a hike to get there. Still, I did pay the $20 for the seminar and I don't know when they'll be back out this way again.
When the girl called, she said there were three "NY area seminars". One in Jamaica, one in Flushing, and one in Tarrytown. I thought, 'This girl's obviously not a local.' Tarrytown's upstate. {{giggle}} Oh well. The one in Jamaica is on a Friday when I have Rainbow. If it was a Bellmore meeting, that would be one thing, but it's a Patchogue meeting. No way, buddy. There's two in Flushing, one Wednesday and one Thursday. I signed up for the Thursday one. I have to take Nana to the doctor on Wednesday for her epidural.
Hopefully, it'll be worth it.

 Every game needs a girl with a mind. That's you. You're the adult of the group, keeping tabs, and making sure no one strays. You're admired by your game companions and players alike. The sad part is you'll end up being a very lonely person in the end. Who would want someone who is capable of doing everything for themself?

finishing up I'm going over to GEICO today to finish up the application process. I have a screening interview and a PC skills test to take before I have a regular interview. I can't believe how complicated this is.
other things If there's enough time, I'm going to stop by NBTY. If not, I'll go to them tomorrow.
I'm also waiting on someone to call me back. A woman named Sarah called in reference to my résumé and I called back. Unfortunately, I don't have her extension. The automated phone system said it was a company called Oaktree.
I had answered a bunch of blind ads. {{shrugs}} I don't know half the companies I applied to. I'm not a big fan of blind ads. If I get anymore calls, I'm probably not going to find out what the companies are until after I get called.
not what i thought I stopped over at the open house at Acclaim on Saturday. It wasn't exactly what I expected. We all sat around for hours. There were an awful lot of people there. Then, I find out in the interview that it's a temporary position that only pays $8 an hour. Temporary means no benefits. While it's good experience, I don't know if I want to drive all the way to Glen Cove (it's like an hour and a half) for a position that has such measely pay and no benefits. I'll be spending my pay check on gas. I have to think about it.
evening fun I went over to Estelle's later. We dropped the baby off at her inlaws (since that's where Johnny was anyway) and went to The Matrix Reloaded. We then went up to Houlihan's for dinner. Johnny had gone over to Paul's, so we headed back to the grandparents' house and picked up the sleeping baby. He was out like a light. I hung out for a while and we looked at some different videos and stuff on the computer before I headed home. I left at like 2 am.
movie review The Matrix Reloaded, starring Keanu Reeves as Neo, picks up almost where the last one left off. Neo has really become a part of the resistance now. It seems that there's been some time since the end of the last movie. Word of Neo's abilities has spread through the human city of Zion and Neo has reached almost a god-like status among them. People bring him offerings and ask him to help them in ways that he's not sure he can. He's still unsure of certain abilities and is almost held back by his own perceived limitations.
The city of Zion is in danger as the machines are mounting an attack. In the small movie, The Animatrix: Final Flight of the Osiris, that aired with Dreamcatcher, they talk of an attack mounting against Zion. The fastest way they could think of to get a message there was to broadcast and go through the Matrix. They leave off with you not sure if the message made it.
Anyway, we come into the story knowing that there's an attack mounting. Did the message make it to Zion? Doesn't matter. Zion operations people have seen the signs. They know the machines are drilling. Now, they're planning on a defense. Meanwhile, Morpheus and the others on his ship insist on waiting for a message from the Oracle. A message they believe will be for Neo.
The movie was an excellent example of technical work. The special effects, the camera angles, the acting, the directing. I really enjoyed it. The story pulled you in and held you for almost the entire movie. The fight scenes and coreography were amazing, not to mention the huge car chase.
I was disappointed, however, with the ending. All those thrills and all the excitement throughout build you up and you're expecting this huge ending. All I got was a huge let down. It screamed of 'coming soon'. There's nothing I hate more than movies that scream sequel. Yes, we all know that The Matrix was destined to be a trilogy, but they don't have to plaster it in huge letters to the end of the movie. They could have left off the last few minutes.
other events Estelle and I hit Houlihan's after the movie. It had been a long time since I had been there. The last time I went was when I was still going out with Stephen 2 years ago. Estelle had never been there before.
Either way, we really enjoyed ourselves. The prices were great, the refills on the soda were free, and they gave you a ton of food. I left stuffed. We didn't bother with dessert. It was good.
home again I showed Estelle the videos at Toonami Digital Arsenal. My favorite is the Kryptonite video done with Gundam Wing clips. One of my favorite songs that someone used clips from one of my favorite anime shows to make a video for? How could I not like it?
We also worked a bit on a prequel for her story. She's been wanting to concentrate more on another character instead of the main one, but she wasn't sure how. With the way her story is written, there really isn't much room for a side story, so I suggested a prequel. A story of the supporting character's life before she meets the main character. She liked that idea, so we came up with some names and places and a place to start. Now that she has her inspiration, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before she gets going again on writing it.
Speaking of stories... I haven't touched any of mine in years. And I have a lot of them that aren't finished. I've been inspired, but I have so many different ideas on where to go with them, I can't decide on what exactly it is I want to do.
I'll figure something out. Eventually...
