fellow bloggers keep up to date
This guy's watching the news more than my dad! I'm surprised at just how much my dad's been keeping up on this. My main deal is I'm listening to see if anyone makes note of Brian's Cavalry. They've sent over several groups from Ft. Hood. So far, I haven't heard his mentioned on the news. I keep paying attention to see if they do.

I don't know which one his brother's in. I also don't know where Paul's stationed. I have no way of knowing if either one of them gets mentioned on the news. I don't even know if Brian knows where Danny is. They might not have told him. Depends on how critical it is. Either way, I've got some letters to write.

Another blog that I've been reading, but hadn't posted a link to, yet, is Anne, Straight from the Hip. Anne has an amazing grasp on the written word, expressing things in a way I feel I might never reach. I also really liked her account of the Oscars she told about from when she was living in Los Angeles. This is a definite one to keep checking out.

More Counties Using Bilingual Ballots

Okay... if you can vote, that means you're a citizen. In order to be a citizen and pass the naturalization process, you need a working knowledge of english. Is it me or does there seem to be something wrong here? How is it that there are people who are legally capable of voting that can't speak or read english well enough to vote? If they want to vote so bad, then they should make the effort to learn english. Why is that so horrible? I just don't understand the point of this.

Somewhere, something's not right. Unless there are illegal citizens registering to vote and getting approved (which is SO wrong!), then this shouldn't even be an issue. I mean, even people that are born here in non-english speaking households have to go to public school in this country. That means they'll learn english as part of the curriculum. Again, there is no way a legal citizen of the United States of America can get by without being taught a working knowledge of english at some point in their lives. It's just not possible.

And you *have* to be a citizen to vote. That means a legal, registered citizen that has either been born here or passed through the country's naturalization process to become a citizen. So, what I want to know is how are people who can't speak enough english to be able to read a voting ballot getting in there to vote?

Personally, I think that's a bigger issue than having the stupid bilingual ballots...

I hope I'm going to ICON today. Things don't sound very promising. Johnny has to work, John S isn't sure if he'll have a way to get there, Michelle and Jim can't go, Estelle would like to have Johnny's mom watch the baby, but isn't sure if she can, and I feel like I got the big shrug off from Scott, Phyllis, and Vinny.

Eh... maybe I'm overreacting. They were kinda busy when I called last night to try to work out a place to meet. The thing is, I would have liked to have gone as a group. It would have been cool. Plus, what's the point of all of us going if we're not going to hang together, right? I'm just a little perturbed at the way they told me, "We'll be around." I'm probably reading more into it than there is.

Of course, I still feel like crap about it. I can sit here and justify it all I want, but it never helps. And I'm not going to go by myself if none of the others can go just on the off chance that I might meet up with Scott and them. It's no fun to go by yourself. I know Dad wanted to go last time, we just go there too late in the day to really do anything. I'll ask him if he'll go again today. I really want to go, just not alone.

Besides, it's rare to find cool eye candy at a Sci Fi convention... ^^;; Maybe that explains my predicament in the dating world...

Must not touch this with a ten foot pole... I don't want to get too depressed in case I get more bad news this morning about people going.

We had our Grand Assembly meeting for Rainbow last night. Aly and I came up with a cool idea for a poster. Now we just have to find time to make it before we go up. Since I absolutely have to do my taxes tomorrow so I can get my FAFSA in to the school on time, tomorrow's pretty much shot for hanging out. I also have a project that's due next Thursday that I need to finish and hand in on Wednesday. Since I'll be up at Grand Assembly on Thursday, I can't exactly hand the project in, right? ^^;;; Yeah... That's what I thought.

You know... maybe I was oversensitive to Scott's response on the phone last night because I was pretty much feeling the same way at the meeting. There's just certain things that I'm not 'feeling the love' from lately, so to speak. I really thought about it last night after I got home. The only reasons I'm going to Grand Assembly this year are because Lisa B asked me to help out with choir and I wanted to be available to take Aly up. Plus, I found out last meeting (not last night, the one before) that Aly got Grand Rep to MA and AK (is that Arkansas or Alaska? I don't remember... but she's rep to Arkansas). I really want to see her get Installed on Saturday night.

I wasn't asked to do anything else but the choir this year. No flag tribute (which I've been missing out on because I have to walk in with the choir all the time), and no Grand Cross this year. I know they like to rotate and stuff, but I also feel like I was skipped over when they asked people last year to help with the Ritual Committee. I've always wanted to be on Ritual Committee for Grand Assembly. A lot of people get tired of the Ritual and stuff, and they all think it's dumb and too serious... That's one of the big things I really liked when I first joined. I love doing it. I really think it's important, and it's what makes Masonic organizations unique from others. Our meetings aren't just meetings where everyone gets together to chat and work out business. We have formal openings and ceremonies that we do, and that really sets all of us apart from other groups.

I guess I'm just venting because I feel a bit left out and unwanted again. It just seems I've been getting that a lot from people lately. Not everyone. I'm just sick and tired of feeling like people I think are friends don't want me around.

Wow... weird... I like surprise kissing from a partner. Of course, I prefer it from a partner. Surprise kisses from strangers are not usually fun. Estelle sent me an adlib for the Jerry Springer show. I found it rather amusing and, after filling in the blanks for the female link, this is what came up. ^_^ Consider yourselves warned, it ended up with unintentional homosexual indictations (it's yuri, for those anime fans out there who want to know which way it went, and everyone else will see what that means when they read it). While it makes it all that much funnier, I feel I have to put a warning in case people aren't into that kind of stuff. Then again, it's Jerry Springer. It works. ^_^;;

special assignment
Prof Lucero is giving out assignments tonight. He said I'm getting a special assignment to do with my game. ^_^ I'm so excited! It's really corny, but I'm happy to getting a cool assignment. He wants me to look into doing stuff for Palm Pilots. Yay! Real world applications! That's so much more fun than some silly "I can make a calculator" assignment.

We're also working on changing the screen colors, but I can't get it to change the colors for only one letter, which is frustrating the heck out of me. I can change it for the whole screen at once, but not individual letters. {{sigh}}

weekend plans
I'm going with a bunch of friends to the ICON convention at SUNY SB on Saturday. YAY! I'm so happy.

practice exams
We've been taking practice tests in my Net Lab & Troubleshooting courses again. {{sigh}} It's not bad. I just know that I probably won't be wasting the money on the certification exam if I keep getting these bad grades. At least they don't count towards my class grade. ^^;;; I just get an 'A' for effort if I keep taking them. Heh...

more health issues
Grandma's going in for surgery soon to have her hip replaced. They think that it will solve both the leg pain and back pain issues. I hope so. {{crosses fingers}} She's checking herself into a nursing home for a while during the rehab she has to go through because Tommy can't help her out with everything (bathing and dressing need to be done by other women!). Nancy's too busy with her kids, we all know Marybeth won't help, and Grandma doesn't want Karen coming up from Jersey for that long of a stretch. Her only other two kids are Dad and Richie. If Richie wasn't a guy, he still couldn't help because he lives in California. So, it would be up to my dad if he wasn't a guy. But, he is. That kinda counts him out, too. Grandma also doesn't want Mom or Pat to help since they're in-laws and only married in. She doesn't want to put that kind of pressure on them.

Next Monday is our next trip to the vet with Marbles. There's been a major improvement since the last visit. He's walking a lot better, though the stairs are still a problem for him. However, he's really soaking up the extra attention with the canned food. It's a good thing. ~_^

Of course, Prudy is jealous that Marbles is getting all the canned food and she isn't getting any. We let her have some after he's done if it's not one of his steroid doses. If it's got steroids in it, she can't have it, but the regular pain reliever and the vitamin supplement isn't a problem for her. In fact, it'll probably do her some good to get the vitamins. She's older than him. Plus, I've noticed she's a lot slower on the stairs nowadays, so the pain reliever probably isn't a bad idea either. Other than that, she's still surprisingly healthier than Marbles. It's like she stopped aging at 10 years old.

I'm still working on the template I want to use. Since I'm not completely familiar with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), it's a bit of trial and error to figure out where things go. ^^;;; I've had some interesting looking results, to say the least. Once it's ready to go live, I'll put it up for all to see. I think it's going to come out pretty cool once it's ready.

I'm thinking of putting my archives on a seperate index page, and possibly my quizzes. Which means I'll have to catch up on publishing those little quiz pages that pop up. I stopped making them, but I didn't stop taking quizzes. ^^;;

Anyway, Avanar gave me a really cool piccy of Duo that I want to try and integrate into a layout. Either that, or I want to do a "Support Our Troops" layout. I haven't completely decided, yet. Maybe I'll work on both and see which one I like better. I saved a copy of my template as it is now on my computer so I can play with a bit and make things fit together before I implement it.

I think Tina dropped the Net Lab & Troubleshooting course. She hasn't been in the last few classes. I got an 'A' on the last assignment that he gave tonight. We're getting another assignment tomorrow to do.

We're discussing the electronic aspect of bandwidth right now. Prof Stephenson is telling us about how a signal has to be stronger than 70% of it's amplitude in order to be considered a good signal. Wherever the signal hits 70% in one cycle is the bandwidth. Or something like that. I'm not an electronics major. ^^;;

Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detect... (CSMA/CD). Ethernet stuff... Blah. I'm not a networking major either. This class was mainly filler.

But, eye candy is wearing shorts. *_* He's just cute... This school is full of eye candy. They're just all taken. {{sobs}}

family news
My aunt came over yesterday. Mom had to go to the doctor again. I'm not going to get into detail on either person, just that my aunt had to make a decision about surgery for her ulcers and Mom's having female issues and/or possible galbladder issues. Both of them don't really want to talk about a lot outside the immediate family, as well as letting Nana know. They don't want Nana to think things are worse than they might be. Nana has a tendancy to overreact about everything.

I can't sleep.

I handed in another homework tonight in Net Lab & Troubleshooting.

Also, I'm moving along quite nicely in C. The teacher really works with everyone individually, which is really cool. He's evaluating each of us and giving us assignments based on our individual skill levels. That way, no one's bored and no one's left behind in confusion.

Jamie's been catching up really fast to some of us. Jesse's really far ahead, as well as another kid that sits behind me. I and this other girl (I think her name is Carol, but I'm not sure) are right about even. We're working a bit ahead of everyone else.

We're working on making these cool games. Better than some of those dumb calculator things we had to do at SCCC. We did such basic stuff there in the C++ class.

Now, I'm having a ton of fun. Jesse made this awesome game where you can move something that looks like a spaceship around and bomb stuff. The kid behind me made a snake game. The rest of us are building matching games using a variety of methods, depending on how advanced we are.

Prof Lucero gave us some tips on how to change the colors on the screen and how to make things move around. This is ten times better and way more useful than the way SCCC taught us. I'm having a ton of fun!
