crisis summit

US, Britain, Spain to Hold Iraq Crisis Summit

God, I hope this ends soon. I'll bet that Saddam's just sitting there watching all this and laughing his ass off at how stupid we all are to keep debating this... all while he just keeps rebuilding those weapons he destroyed for show and then some.

dancing hamsters
My mom has a ton of them. x.x

They're cute, though. She just got a set today that's two of them connected together, and they play "Dueling Banjos" opposite each other. It's hysterical.

busy weekend
Well, after tutoring, I'm hanging out with Estelle. Then, Sunday, I'm going to Nana's so Nana can find a new bed. Plus Auntie Lyn has some stuff she needs Dad to take down into the basement for her. After that, Mom's friend from work, Lori, is having one of those parties where you buy stuff. This is a new one that we haven't done before, and another one of Mom's friends, Donna, invested in the kit to sell it. So, we're helping her get started. This one is a combination of Pampered Chef, Party Lite, and Home Interiors, but everything is cheaper, according to Mom. I saw a few of the things she bought. They're not slacking on quality with this stuff, either. It's almost parr with the expensive stuff.

Mom decided to book a party with Donna next month. Time to pull out the invite list... o.o I don't know who'd want to go. We got Patty and Meta from Rainbow... they said they want to come. Nana will probably want to come, too. Maybe we can invite Aunt Nancy and Grandma again. Plus, all the people from Mom's unit at work. Mom asked if I wanted to invite anyone. I'll ask around and see if anyone wants to come.

phone update
I can't find it... I guess maybe I didn't pay them twice for one bill. I thought I had, because I sent in a remittance stub for the same bill I paid online but... hmm... Maybe I didn't send it. I can't find anything in my bank records that indicates I did. This is frustrating because I remember spotting something where I had paid them twice very close together, but that could have been because I waited on a bill until I had the money and then paid the next one as soon as I got it.

I'll get to the bottom of this, yet! {{points finger in air like a cheesy detective}}

bye bye
I have to go finish cleaning the kitchen before I leave for the meeting tonight. Byes!

you want me to what?
Well, I spoke with Lillian. She's from Kiddie Academy in Riverhead. They're looking for an Admin Assistant, but a part of that job is to watch the kids while the TA's go on break. I don't know, we'll have to see about this one. It's a great location compared to all the others, but the pay is only $8/hr and it doesn't look like it's full time. If it's not, I might not get benefits, like health insurance and stuff like that. Lillian's going to forward my resume to the director and see if they can change the hours... I can't be there until the time they said they need me, which is 6:30. My classes all start at 6.

interview news
The interview for Motivators went pretty well this morning. Ken said he was seeing a few more people after me and that he'd get back to me next week about a possible second interview. I had applied through LIJobs.com for their webmaster position, but he doesn't think I have enough of a background for it. However, he's got a position that's not quite sales, but not quite webmaster. It's in between. I would be assisting with the website issues, as well as assisting with the sales department. It's more along the lines of customer service, because there's no cold calling. I hate cold calling... I don't want to be a telemarketer. I hate telemarketers... I don't want to be one.

Anyway, he's concerned about my commute. I told him (which it's the truth) that I just have to go where the jobs are. If I want a particular job bad enough, I'll travel for it. They're not that far south of the Hicksville train station. It took me about 40 minutes in clear sailing traffic. It'll probably be about an hour during the winter rush hour times and maybe a little longer during the summer, when everyone's traveling from the city to out east, or during bad weather, when everyone on Long Island suddenly has this brain fart on how to drive.

insurance
The adjuster came earlier today... That was interesting, having a strange guy in my house while I was getting ready to go to the interview. I had to get up an hour earlier than I normally would have just so I could take my shower and be out of the bathroom by the time he got here. He looked over the bathroom, how our tile is messed up on the floor and the wall behind the toilet is all water-stained. I also heard Dad pointing out the huge water-stain on the ceiling. I don't know if he asked about the carpet, but it looked a little more pulled up than when I went to bed last night, so he might have. Dad forgot to ask about our table, though. Not that the table's in great condition to begin with (it's really old), but it got so wet and the wet tablecloth sat on it all night, so the finish got all messed up. Dad called a little while ago and said the guy still hadn't called back.

achy cat
Marbles looks like he's really hurting today. He's walking as little as possible and taking a lot of sit down breaks when he goes from the living room to the kitchen. Poor old guy. You can see where his left leg is all inflamed from the arthritis. It's basically where the ankle is if you were to compare his bone structure to a human's. It's not just regular swelling, you can feel the difference. He lets me touch his leg, so it must not be really bad. If it was, he'd react in some way.

Of course, he's loving the idea of having canned food twice a day to get the medicine the vet gave us for him. We normally only feed them crunchy food because the canned stuff isn't cheap. Unfortunately, the medicine is in powdered form, so the only way we can give it to him is by mixing it with something soft, like tuna or canned cat food. I doubt Marbles would complain about that. Canned food is a special treat for these guys... except Ivy. She hates anything that has to do with fish for some odd reason. Since most canned cat food contains some type of fish oil, she won't eat it. Dad found that amusing this morning when Marbles didn't finish and he offered some to Ivy. Prudy ate it instead.

meeting...
I have a meeting tonight. I forgot about it completely.. ^_^;; Estelle and I are going to hang out tomorrow night instead. I'm going to call her when I get home from tutoring Jennifer.

I have no idea what to discuss. St Patrick's Day is on Monday, but we never made definite plans at the next meeting for a dinner like we usually have each year. Maybe I'll figure out a couple of dates and see if we can have some sort of fundraiser dinner. It would have to be a family style dinner, though, with set serving times. Since we're down to basically just Aly, we really don't have people to serve restaurant style.

phone bills
I have to call Sprint back. I called earlier, but I couldn't find the bank statement that showed I paid them twice. They don't have the extra credit down in my account, and I never saw it on my statements from them. I know they collected it because I couldn't take money out of my account one time when I knew I should have had it in there.

Grr...

adjuster visits
The insurance adjuster is visiting tomorrow to investigate our claim about the toilet. Dad's upstairs ripping the carpet up in the kitchen to show the damage to the padding and stuff. The back of the carpet is all water stained.

i'm gettin' calls!
Someone called while I was in class about my resume. They didn't say who they were with, and Mom forgot I had the interview tomorrow, so she didn't get a number. Just that "Lillian is going to call me back tomorrow morning". {{crosses fingers}} I hope this is another good possibility for a job.

school daze
I didn't finish the packet, but it's not due until Monday. I'm on the last page already, though, so it's no big deal. I only have about 15 or so questions left to finish over the weekend. I can do them either Sunday or during the day on Monday.

Tina said she hasn't gotten a lot of calls for tutoring this half. I haven't gotten a lot of new students that didn't know me from classes. As it is, a bunch of people that were in my math class are in my Intro to C class. I was helping Jaime a bit with her homework before the teacher came in, giving her tips on the Quadratic Formula. I have an appointment to meet with Jen on Saturday at 2 for the same class Jaime's in. At least I got a hint into what I'm going to be helping Jen with. I'm not a big fan of the Quadratic Formula, either, but I know it. And they got a negative square root in one of the answers (at least, Jaime did). I don't know if they're going into Imaginary Numbers, yet, but I'll find out soon enough.

snow in march???
Plus, it's snowing... well, now it's sleet. Mom had sleet when she left work, rain halfway home, and then snow when she got to the house... all in one commute. This is SO not normal weather for us.

teacher search
And several people just came asking about the teacher... including the Dean of Academics. We have his cell number, and we gave it to her to call him. She said she got his voice mail and left a message. We'll see what happens. In the meantime, we have to sit here and wait. I have to wait anyway since I have another class after this, but everyone else has to wait now, too.

I chickened out on wearing the skirt. The idea of walking to my car after a late class like that and ending up being cold because of the snow wasn't exactly appealing. No matter how much I want to try and impress eye candy, it ain't worth freezing my butt off for. job fair results
Well, it was mostly sales types of positions again. However, I was able to find some that are inbound call centers. I'm not a salesperson and I'm certainly not going to pretend to be one. I don't have the personality for it. However, if someone calls me and says, "Hey, I wanna buy something of yours," I'm good at doing that. ^_^;; I talked to Cablevision about it. They only had inbound shifts that run 3 pm to midnight and required weekend hours. Unfortunately, I can't do that shift until after the semester is over. {{sigh}} I also talked to Long Island Rail Road. They were looking for IT people! {{dies from shock}} They even liked the fact that I had Visual Basic and Microsoft Access under my belt. I don't have Oracle, but I can learn and I know SQL, so that's an edge on the Oracle issue. I spoke with a few other places, but there weren't really all that many companies there. A vitamin place in Hicksville (not NBTY) was hiring for inbound call center sales staff as well, and they have flexible hours, which is great while I'm going to school. I talked to the girl from there and scheduled an interview for next Tuesday at noon.

All in all, it wasn't as disappointing as I thought it would be. If only I could get my lovelife to start looking up, then everything would be perfect... >P Oh well. Can't have it all, I guess.

hmmm...
Maybe I'll leave the skirt on and see if eye candy in class tonight notices... If he's not taken anymore, it might be worth it. Just to see if I still got it, ya know? ~_^;;

kitty update
I also got the call from the vet today. He said Marbles still has the hyperthyroid issue, which has certain hormones in his blood elevated. He's also got an infection of some sort, since his white blood cell count was slightly up as well. The vet's not too worried about the blood count and Marbles isn't anemic anymore. But, his blood sugar was up a bit, but the vet thinks it's stress related. x.x;; Like a cat that sleeps all day could have stress. I think any kind of stress he might be having is probably related to his leg pain and this infection he's fighting off. Either way, Dr Savino wants to see him again at the end of next week, so I made an appointment to take him back at 8:45 on Friday morning. I called Dad first and asked if he wanted to come, too, since Marbles is technically his cat, and he suggested an early time so he could still go to work if he couldn't switch his day off.

Poor old guy. The hyperthyroid is probably the reason he's drinking a lot again. He was doing that last time it flared up on him, but the medicine they gave him for it really helped, so I'm hoping it'll help again.

meet me at the fair
Well, I'm waiting for the computer to finish printing out resumes for me while I'm eating lunch. Then, I'm off to the job fair.

calling all jobs
I also called someone back who e-mailed me, but he was in a meeting. I left a message for him to get back to me at home, told them it was about my resume. His e-mail signature had a website in it. I think I've gotten called by this guy before, but he was looking for someone who devote a lot more time to work than I could. I want a job, but I also want to finish school. The job he described was going to take a lot of my time and I'm not willing to give up school again. Not this time. I want to finish. I'll find out when he calls. Maybe I'll go on the interview anyway for the practice and see what happens.

movie review
Mom and I were watching Moulin Rouge before I left for class yesterday. It was actually very amusing in a lot of places. I wasn't sure what to think of it when I saw the previews, but I think I'd enjoy it if I watched the whole thing. And that really was Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGreggor singing.

Dad and I also watched Disney's Atlantis, the Lost Empire recently. I enjoyed it. Jacquiline Obradors, Michael J Fox, Cree Summer, the guy who played Father Guido on "Saturday Night Live", and James Garner were among the voices I recognized. Also, the guy who plays Frasier's dad on the show did a voice. I was surprised at how many were there. The animation was a bit more like a Don Bluth movie, but the drawing style was definitely different from anything else. Disney sometimes changes drawing styles from movie to movie, which can sometimes make their work hard to identify. And the movements were very exaggerated, like you usually see in a Don Bluth animation. The storyline was surprisingly reminiscent of Stargate, where the linguist falls in love with a native and stays behind. But, I enjoyed the movie overall.

(phone rings)
I just got off the phone with Dale, Ken's assistant, apparently. I'm going to go on the interview tomorrow for Motivators, Inc., which is the guy that e-mailed me earlier. This is a different company, though. The other one was up in Hauppauge somewhere and this one's on Route 106 in Hicksville. It's a 45 minute drive or so, but we'll see how it goes. If I can get an early shift, I'll miss the traffic and still be able to tutor.

ready to go
Well, my resumes are finished printing, so I'm going to quick finish lunch and then head off to the fair.

I'm starved... Class wasn't that bad. We were getting set up for the beginning of the semester. I also know a bunch of people in the class, as well as the Professor, so that should make it more interesting, including eye candy from last semester. Unfortunately, I think eye candy is taken already. {{sigh}} It's not eye candy from math, but another one that had been in a few classes of mine the past. There's a surprising amount of eye candy at this school... but, like I said earlier, most of them seem to be taken. {{double sigh}} Now... to find out about books... {{dies}}

There's a job fair in Woodbury tomorrow... I'm going, of course. I just hope I find something.

two things certain in life
Death and taxes.

That's right. As the deadlines draw near, I need to find out all I can on education credits. Mom's been bringing stuff home, but I have no clue how to do this. Everyone says to use an accountant. I can't afford a good one and H&R Block-"head" isn't worth the trip over. Mom said more errors on tax forms come through from stuff done by them than anyone else.

So... this is going to be interesting.

anyway
I still don't know what's up with my car. Because the ground's all wet from melting snow, it's hard to tell if it's leaking. Plus, other people use the spot I park in, so again... I wouldn't know if a spot would be from me. But, like I said earlier, I didn't notice any blue exhaust today. {{sigh}}

And now Dad doesn't know if he's going to get the Caravan, which he had considered since the guy with the Bronco balked at the idea of cutting the price for repair costs. My last check bounced on the credit card, which jacked the interest rate. God, I'm so stupid. I didn't know he was paying it, too... and my check would have technically been a double payment. But, they counted it anyway. {{slaps self silly}} Stupid... He can switch the balance and all to another card, but I still have to keep track of what I owe him.

school
Class wasn't bad. Prof Lucero seems like a pretty cool teacher. I think it's going to be dry, though. We're only covering three topics this session. We talked about the 'printf' statement all night. We'll see how this goes.

And the book is like $70. He says we don't have to get that one, but we have to get a book. I might as well. I'll see if I can get one in time from somewhere else for cheaper, like eBay or Amazon or something. I did that for my Unix class and got an awesome deal.

old friends
I saw Michelle today after class for the first time in several weeks. She has an english class in the South Street building after my C class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We talked for a while, catching up on things. She got a cat, Roxbury. Also, our friend Stacy called Michelle a couple days ago. Stacy's six weeks pregnant. I'm really happy for her and John P. They've been married for almost three years now and moved up to CT either last year or the year before. My mom works with both Michelle's and Stacy's moms, which is really funny. Donna (Stacy's mom) didn't know Stacy and I knew each other or that Mom was my mom. Barbara (Michelle's mom) started working at the IRS last year, I think. It's pretty cool.

I have to send Stacy a congratulations e-mail.

I also heard from Stef a few weeks ago. She's doing good. Still down in FL and she seems pretty happy. She had heard from Sean and Drew finally. I was happy to know they hadn't fallen off the face of the earth like I thought they had. Drew has a little girl. {{dies}} I can't believe he's got a kid. I was shocked to hear that one. I hadn't even known he was seriously dating someone. {{sigh}}

love life
...or lack thereof...

I'm so lonely, sometimes. I just don't know how I'd balance any kind of relationship right now. Plus, I'm just lacking in the desire department. As lonely as I am, I just don't feel like putting myself out there. I mean, if something pops up in my face, I'll probably go for it, but I just don't have the desire to actively persue something right now.

I had kind of hoped eye candy in math would have wanted tutoring, but he dropped the class. That was disappointing. I hope I see him in another class. So far, I've met very few guys at school that are single that I liked. Most of them were taken. {{sigh}} Oh well.

kitty news
Marbles is doing a lot better. Dad said he actually called the vet earlier just to let him know that Marbles was acting more himself now that he had gotten the shot. Between the vitamins and the steroids, he's steadier on his feet and moving around a lot more. He's also limping a lot less. With such a dramatic improvement in such a short time, things are looking up for the old guy.

{{big sigh of relief}}

job news
I just heard from Rob V about the website project. He's got two other programmers to work on the site with me, which takes a lot of pressure off me. The job he wants done is huge, so I'm glad I'm only doing a part of it. He got a DB Admin to handle the backend, and a middle person to handle integration. I'm in charge of the front end, JavaScripting and HTML stuff. I'm really excited about this. He said he's going to get back to me later this week. We're setting up a meeting between the four of us to get this worked out. I'm really looking forward to it.

Plus, I want to learn more from the other two about their respective positions. While I know some basics about ASP and SQL, I really want to learn more. I'm not sure we're working completely with ASP, but, even if we're using PHP, it'll still be a learning experience for me. Considering that I want to open my own web design business some day, this is a really good thing for me to do.

Bush's Alterior Motive: Could it Be Oil? Maybe, but What About Oil?

I don't think it's just about oil. There's got to be more to this. If it was just about oil, he could kick all those Green party people in California out of the way and just drill. We've got enough oil in our country to beat our Middle East addiction and then sell it off to make ourselves some money. Plus, we have the technology to do it without hurting anything. We proved that with the Alaskan Pipeline. On top of that, our technology has increased tenfold since then.

It's not oil. And this writer doesn't seem to think so, either...

down and out cat
We brought Marbles to the vet today. He's been acting like he's in pain for the past few days, and we were starting to get worried about him. Granted, he's an 18-year-old cat. We had to put his littermate, Daryl, down two years ago after he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Daryl had been diabetic already, and we treated him for it for years. We didn't want to put him through two treatment schedules everyday like that, though. It would have been too much stress on the old guy.

Anyway, the vet thinks it just might be arthritis flaring up. He took blood anyway to test for anything and we should hear about it tomorrow. He has some muscle loss on his back, which he thinks might just be the cat's age. So the vet gave him a mild steroid to help a bit with the pain mixed with some vitamins, and he gave us some medicine to help him. I hope that's all it is.

state of affairs
Well, my friend and I talked last night. We got everything worked out. YAY! I feel a lot better now about it, since we were able to work things out. We were watching some cartoons on CN for a bit, too. There were some odd ones, like "The Oblongs", and we watched an episode of "Futurama". They weren't bad, though I probably wouldn't watch them regularly. It's not like a Gundam series or something. We caught an episode of "Samurai Jack", too. I like it, but sometimes it gets really weird.

I do need to try and catch "Rorouni Kenshin" or some of the other new shows that are on. I've heard they're pretty good. My friend said that "Lupin III" was funny, just really badly drawn (worse than old "Speed Racer", "Gundam", or "Dragon Ball").

vehicle situation
Well, like they say, when one thing goes wrong, everything goes wrong. Dad brought the truck back home today. It's still drivable, but one of the cylinders isn't firing, it need tranny work, and the rear axle needs work (I think). He brought that home so that he could get the alignment done on my grandmother's car (which is the car he's been using). He's not sure if the deal with the other Bronco is going to work out, so he's looking at some other possibilities.

The guy we take the vehicles to has a Caravan for sale at the shop. Apparently, it had belonged to the shop owner's father. He just wants a lot more for that than the other guy wants for the truck. Dad's weighing his options.

Of course, now my car is starting to lose oil. We're not quite sure how, yet, so we're trying to figure that out on our own to save some money. I had to put 2 1/2 quarts in the other day and it hasn't even been 2000 miles since the last oil change. The guy didn't mention a leak when I got it done, and the back of the car doesn't get all black and filthy looking, so the obvious answers aren't coming to us. Plus, my brakes grind really bad (they have since we got it, but now they're getting worse). We used to think it was just the pads, that the guy put those really hard pads on when he did them for us. We took it back a few times while it was still under warranty and no one could find any signs of wear on the discs. But, the noise is getting worse whenever I hit the brakes. The car stops, so I'm not worried about that. I'm worried about possibly having more work (and cost) later if these things are doing damage.

lack of news
I haven't heard anything on the job front in a few days. I sent out some more applications the other day. I gave up on BnW. It's been so long, I know I didn't get it. I did get a letter back from SUNY SB, but letters are always bad things. It was a nice way of telling me without having to talk to me about how I didn't meet the requirements for the job. Then there was some blurb about them keeping my résumé and application on file, but we all know what file that is.

did something just drip on me?
Our upstairs toilet went nuts, too. Apparently, the handle sticks. This is a new turn of events. At first, we thought it cracked, because the water was coming out the back. The bathroom was flooded, and it leaked through the tile (which has been leaky for years... ^^;;), soaking the kitchen ceiling. We had to move the table (which was also soaked) and put out pots and stuff to catch the dripping water. Luckily, we have a shop vac that sucks up water, so we used that to clean it up. We can still use the toilet, we just have to make sure the handle doesn't stick, otherwise, it drains the tank and shoots water out the overflow holes in the back of the tank.

time to teach
Well, I'm going to grab a snack and then head off to tutor. I promised Evelyn I'd look over a Physics problem for her. I just need to remember how to add vectors... ^^;;

one more thing
I just wanted to post this link. Scott B sent it to me. It makes you wonder how tech support and help desk people put up with it all.

hair, the musical
I heard that's in revival... but that's not what I'm posting about.

Well, they found a match for my color at this other place. It's weird, I kind of feel like I cheated on Debbie by going to another salon. I know that's stupid, but, still... she's been doing my hair since 10th grade. {{sigh}} Oh well. It still came out nice, though the girl drying my hair took forever to do it. O.O;; I started getting jumpy sitting there for that long, but it came out nice. Plus, because it was the new girl and she was filling in for the other one who actually colored my hair (they double booked, apparently), they didn't charge us the extra for the blowout.

Definitely not complaining there. All in all, it wasn't a bad trip.

are you sure?
Is it me or does 'no' suddenly translate to 'ask me again, but another way'? Ah... nevermind. I probably shouldn't even complain about this. Mom and I stopped at Nana's on the way home and she asked if I was hungry or wanted anything. I politely said "No, thanks, I'm fine." She then proceeded to rattle off everything they had in the house, just in case. I honestly didn't think I had asked for a menu. Oh well... She can be overbearing, but I know she's just trying to be nice.

rip - grey '89 bronco xlt
Well, I think we're giving the old Bronco the heave-ho. We got that truck brand new back in 1989. It was a good truck, but the cost of repair is beginning to outweigh the cost of replacement. Dad found another one he was looking at, also an '89 XLT, but with about 300,000 miles less on it. It's clean, red/tan, and runs fairly well. He's going to try to talk the guy down in price since it does need *some* work. You can't find a truck that's 14 years old and doesn't need work. {{crosses fingers}} I hope it works out okay.

girl's night in
I hung out with Estelle for a little while tonight. We watched Sleepless in Seattle. It's been a while since I've seen that movie. I like it. Estelle hadn't seen it before, and she seemed to like it, too. It kind of makes me want to see An Affair to Remember with the way they talk about that movie throughout. Either that, or Dirty Dozen... Tom Hanks' character and another guy start talking about that movie just to drown out the 'girly-ness' of discussing Affair.

We also caught an episode of "Justice League" and discussed some of the new anime that's on CN's Toonami. There was a couple of ads showcasing a new lineup that included clips from "G Gundam", "Dragon Ball", "Rorouni Kenshin", and a few others. They had a few show specific ads on, too, for "Yu-Yu-Hakusho", "Rorouni Kenshin", and "Lupin III". I haven't seen many of those. I watched one episode of "Yu-Yu-Hakusho" and that particular episode looked so much like an episode of "Dragonball Z", I turned it off. ^^;;; Someone told me it's not really like "DBZ". I've just seen "DBZ" and "Dragon Ball" so much on CN lately, I'm getting sick of it. The few times I sit down to watch some anime on TV, I always catch one of those two shows. It's a bit frustrating.
