Mako was orphaned at a very young age when her parents were killed in a plane crash. She's been presumably on her own since then, though it's never been fully established as to how or why. Transferring several times from school to school, she finally settled down at Juuban Junior High School in Tokyo. There, she met up with the rest of the Sailor Scouts, finding a place where she belonged. It was there she discovered her abilities as Sailor Jupiter and that she was actually a Princess in the ancient Moon Kingdom.
Mako is a headstrong girl with a sharp temper. Every guy reminds her of her ex-boyfriend, someone who apparently deeply broke her heart. It has since become a joke with her friends, a way to lighten the shadow she felt. She has training in martial arts and sometimes uses that training to focus her mind and control her temper. She isn't afraid of a fight, and will stand up for herself and what she believes in.
