Therapy or Torture?
Duo still was deciding. On Sally's recommendation now that Duo's healing had seemed to have stopped just short of where they wanted him to be, he'd started going to physical therapy.
Jess had done it a few times. She had told him what to expect and what she had been doing for her knees, and Duo wasn't happy about things as he walked into the office.
First came the evaluation. Pushing, poking, proding... all testing the limits the injury had left on his ankle. Comparing it to his other leg, not only could they see a difference in their professional capacities, but he was feeling one.
And it wasn't pleasant.
They started him on some simple exercises. They wanted to build the strength back up in his leg, as well as the flexibility. Testing his balance and making sure the joint stayed limber were pretty important. By the time they were done, he felt like his leg was screaming for him to stop.
"You handled that really well..." the therapist mentioned as he put ice on it. He had Duo lay back and rest his leg on some giant padded wedge thing to elevate it.
"Thanks...?" Duo didn't sound so sure.
"No, I'm serious... But... you do have to tell me when something hurts. Believe me, that's harder for guys than girls, I know. But don't be afraid to tell me to stop something." Duo bit his lip for a moment.
"Can I just stop the whole thing and not come back?" he said. The therapist smiled and Duo sighed, giving him a small smile back. "Just kidding..." Though, part of him really was serious about that.
"Don't worry... everyone goes through a tough time of it in the beginning," he said. "But the things we did today will get easier. Then, we move you on to the next level until you're back to almost 100%."
"So much for it just getting easier, huh?" The therapist chuckled this time and place the timer on the table next to where Duo was laying.
"When that beeps, take the ice off and you're done for tonight."
"Thanks..." Duo sighed. 'I think...'
