Just a Day, Just an Ordinary Day
"How's your leg?"
"Sore..."
Mia glanced up from her magazine. Duo looked uncomfortable. The switch from two crutches to one hadn't gone exactly well, and, while he was putting weight on the injured leg, he'd been mostly going back and forth between using both crutches and just one.
"You want ice?" she asked him. He sighed and shook his head.
"I'll live." Mia frowned a bit and went back to her magazine.
"Well, let me know, okay?"
"Yeah..." He yawned as the front door opened. Jess came in after a shift doing work study at the Student Services office and dropped her things, shoving the one bag under the table with her foot.
"I'm so glad I found that bag in Kansas City," she said. "I'm down to one instead of lugging around my laptop case and my bookbag. It's probably the one good thing I got out of that trip." She flopped down on the couch. Duo winced as she bumped his leg by accident. "Sorry..."
"Don't worry about it," he mumbled. "It's not like it wasn't bugging me already..."
"Bad day?" Duo just frowned. "Ooookay..." Jess yawned, leaving it at that. Duo'd been moody ever since he fell, and she couldn't really blame him. He'd been having a tough time of it, and she knew he hated not being able to do what he wanted.
"Busy day again?" Mia asked.
"Not as bad as last week," Jess said. "Now that classes have been running for a while, we're calm until the session change."
"That's good."
"Where is everyone?"
"Here and there," Mia said. "Sage went for a run... Quatre, Mina, and Rowen went to catch a movie... Mako went shopping... Haruto, Yuriko, and Annie are... well, I don't remember where they went." She shrugged.
"So, it's just been the two of you all day?"
"Not all day... everyone's been rotating out..."
"Oh."
"And your mom called... said she'd be a little late 'cuz she was stopping at the store on the way home."
"I was wondering why she wasn't in, yet." Jess smiled a bit.
"I'm gonna take a nap," Duo said in a somewhat grumpy tone. Jess offered him a hand up, but he ignored it, hobbling off with his crutches.
